# Time Gym Pool Team 1 Score Team 2 Score
1 Noon Dble A SMUS 59 Hugh Boyd 42
Review: Host SMUS proved too strong for a feisty Hugh Boyd outfit, breaking open a scrappy affair with the opening eight points of the final quarter. The Blue Jags Jure Erlic led all scorers with 25, while teammate Jamie Yorath pitched in with 11 and 6 dimes. Both teams struggled from the perimeter, combining to go 3-26 from beyond the arc.
2 Noon Sgle B Dover Bay 65 Ross Shepherd 58
Review: 47 points from the inside trio of Ted Neilsen, Jason McKee and Trevor Davidson proved just enough as Dover Bay edged Edmonton’s Ross Shepherd in a very close and physical contest. Senior guard Adrian Osman paced the Thunderbirds with 16 points, while Alex Nugusse added three trifectas. Dover Bay led by as many as 10 early in the final frame, but a Shep rally cut the margin to 53-51 with five minutes to play.
3 1:45pm Dble C Cowichan 76 West Vancouver 44
Review: A deep and talented Cowichan crew finally wore down gallant West Vancouver, thanks to a 29-9 fourth quarter scoring outburst. Dan Hobden (15) and Steve McKinnon (14) led a balanced scoring attack, as ten Thunderbirds hit the scoresheet. Player of the Game Grady Krohman potted 19 in a valiant losing cause.
4 1:45pm Sgle D Belmont 78 St. George’s 89
Review: Unfancied Belmont, with Sean Panton scoring 18 points, gave defending BC AAA champions St. Georges a thorough test, hitting seven threes in an exciting, up tempo contest. For the winners, who notched eight treys of their own, starry point guard Emerson Murray led all scorers with 24, while Amrit Gill and Cornel Alexiu each added 15.
5 3:30pm Dble B St. Paul’s 70 Dover Bay 58
Review: Pool B was thrown wide open after St. Paul’s of Winnipeg, with star pivot Tanner Draward popping 25 points and fellow forward Joey Nitychoruk adding 16, dropped Dover Bay. Trevor Davidson did manage 22 for the Nanaimo based Dolphins, who finished today’s play 1-1. All hinges now on the final pool game between St. Paul’s and Ross Shepherd of Edmonton, with point differential coming into play if the latter can win and ensure all three teams in the group finish with the same record.
6 3:30pm Sgle A Hugh Boyd 48 LeBoldus 63
Review: LeBoldus consigned Hugh Boyd to the consolation side of the draw with a 15 point win. Led by PG Marcus Ward, the Regina based Suns used a balanced attack and some stingy defence to claim victory. Forward Aidan Docherty notched 13 for the Trojans, who, though closing at one time to ten points in the final quarter, were ultimately unable to make a dent in a 35-21 halftime deficit.
7 5:15pm Dble C Harry Ainlay 66 Cowichan 75
Review: Cowichan clinched top spot in Pool C with a somewhat misleading nine point win over Harry Ainlay. The Edmontonians actually led a highly competitive contest by five at quarter time and two entering the final frame. But 19 combined points from the inside-outside duo of Steve McKinnon and Mitch Knippleberg in the pivotal last quarter proved to be the difference. For the Titans, Jahlani Gilbert-Knorren (17), Brandon West and Kyle Petersen (10 each) handled the scoring load. Ainlay must now beat West Vancouver in the final group game this evening to advance to the championship quarterfinals.
8 5:15pm Sgle D St. Francis 69  Belmont 86
Review: A dominant third quarter allowed Belmont to break open a 38-35 half time scoreline, en route to a fairly comfortable fifteen point victory over Calgary St. Francis. The Bulldog’s James Negraeef hit for a game high 24 points, which included a 10-15 pereformance from the charity stripe. For the Browns, making their Invitational debut, sophomore guard Kadin Majcher led the way with 20.
9 7:00pm Dble A LeBoldus 60 SMUS 58 (OT)
Review: In an exciting game dominated for 40 minutes by defence, LeBoldus grabbed top spot in Group A after a nervy 60-58 OT win against host SMUS. A tough banked runner by Blue Jags’ Jamie Yorath tied the score at 48 with a 4.4 seconds to play in regulation, but the Regina based Suns did just enough in the extra session to take the victory. Solid free throw shooting kept LeBoldus narrowly in front, and while a Mitch Wiggins late trey gave the locals hope, a last second bid for double OT fell just short. Joe Deciman scored 10 for the Suns in a balanced attack, while Jure Erlic (21) and Wiggins (15) led SMUS.
10 7:00pm Sgle B Ross Shepherd 73 St. Paul’s 80 (2OT)
Review: In the Group of Death, a flurry of points in the second overtime period proved just enough for St. Paul’s to secure first seed, while relegating a talented Ross Shepherd team to the consolation side of the draw. The desperate Thunderbirds closed from ten down in the final quarter to lead 66-62 with less than a minute to play before surrendering this unlikely lead. The first five minutes produced only two points for each side, before Crusaders post Joey Nitychoruk took over down the stretch.
11 8:45pm Dble D St. George’s 67 St. Francis 20
Review: St. George’s proved too strong for St. Francis, with a lock down defence handcuffing the Calgary visitors at every turn. With all players seeing plenty of court time, Saints’ senior forward David McFayden scored 13, while for the Browns, Kadin Majcher finished with 8 points.
12 8:45pm Sgle C West Vancouver 64  Harry Ainlay 72
Review: In a close contest, Harry Ainlay gained the coveted championship quarterfinal berth thanks to a decision over West Vancouver. The Titans grabbed an early nine point lead, and this, for the most part, stood up throughout the game. Brandon West contributed 25 to the winning cause, while, for the losers, Cully Quirke and Garry Airiants each tallied 13.

13 9:10am Dble QF 1st Pool A (LeBoldus) 60  2nd Pool B (Dover Bay) 65
Review: In a game of wild scoring streaks, Dover Bay answered last, and in so doing advanced to the tournament semi-finals. Up 10-0 to start the game, the Dolphins then surrendered a 22-4 run to trail LeBoldus by eight at the end of the first quarter. Down double digits early in the final frame, Dover Bay, behind Trevor Davidson’s game high 22 points, rallied with an impressive closing drive, notching the final eleven points to scrape home 65-60. For the Suns, sophomore sensation Joe Deciman hooped 17, and brought the crowd to its feet midway through the second quarter with a spectacular slam dunk in traffic.
14 9:10am Sgle QF 1st Pool B (St. Paul’s) 73  2nd Pool A (SMUS) 61
Review: A brave effort by SMUS came to naught as visiting St. Paul’s ensured a rematch with Dover Bay by virtue of a 73-61 quarterfinal victory. Not surprisingly, twin towers Tanner Draward and Joey Nitychoruk proved a handful for the undersized hosts, with the Crusaders pair combining for 29 points and 21 rebounds. SMUS’ perimeter game yielded ten trifectas, but some key inside chances went abegging at critical junctures. Jure Erlic led all scorers in the game with 21.
15 11:00am Dble QF 1st Pool C (Cowichan) 98  2nd Pool D (Belmont) 74
Review: As expected, Cowichan advanced to the semi-finals, this time by outscoring Belmont. A wild and woolly third quarter saw the teams combine for 57 points, but in the end, the Thunderbirds size and power told the tale. Steve McKinnon led five players in double figures with 25, while for the Bulldogs, James Negraeef’s 22 led a similar quintet of double digit scorers.
16 11:00am Sgle QF 1st Pool D (St. Georges) 82  2nd Pool C (Harry Ainlay) 68
Review: Pre tournament favourite St. Georges booked its semi-final place, following an intense and hard fought 82-68 win over a battling Harry Ainlay squad. A deadly thirteen point run, either side of the third quarter break, broke open the contest and proved to be the difference. Saints duo Emerson Murray and David MacFayden combined for 41 points, while, for the Titans, forwards Keith Gerdes and Sean Baergen shared 38 and also added 16 rebounds.
17 12:50pm Dble   3rd Pool A (Hugh Boyd) 42 3rd Pool B (Ross Shepherd) 79
Review: Underdog and undersized Hugh Boyd, already missing star forward Tiernan Docherty to an ankle ailment, proved no match for powerful Ross Shepherd, with the Thunderbirds clearly still stinging over their exit from the championship side of the draw. All players on both teams saw lots of court time, with Blake Hinchley (12), Adrian Osman and Joel Turner (10 apiece) pacing the Edmontonians. For the gallant Trojans, post Tim Lin managed 10 in a losing cause.
18 2:40pm Dble   3rd Pool C (West Vancouver) 76  3rd Pool D (St. Francis) 41
Review: Behind Jon Steele’s game high 19 points, West Vancouver gained a straightforward consolation side win by outdistancing St. Francis. A sixteen point Highlander run early in the fourth quarter ensured there would be no way back for the Browns, for whom only Daniel Han reached double digits (11) in scoring.
19 2:40pm Sgle   Loser Gm 13 (LeBoldus) 67 Loser Gm 14 (SMUS) 59
Review: LeBoldus made it 2 for 2 against host SMUS, with another hard fought, narrow triumph. While in relative control the whole game, the Suns would point to an unanswered ten point run late in the second frame as key to victory. As usual, Marcus Ward (20) and Joe Deciman (17) dominated proceedings. While the Blue Jags had four players in double figures, in Tycho Mommsen-Smith, Jamie Yorath, Jure Erlic, and Mitch Wiggins, early foul trouble seriously blunted any real momentum and left the team chasing the game from the get-go.
20 4:30pm Sgle   Loser Gm 15 (Belmont) 85 Loser Gm 16 (Harry Ainlay) 77
Review: An early Belmont blitz, spearheaded by the first of PG Chris Lequesne’s 31 points, proved just enough as the Langford gang was never headed en route to victory. While, in a fast, physical encounter, Harry Ainlay closed to within two points on several occasions, sparked by Keith Gerdes’ 19 points and further 16 from Jahlani Gilbert- Knorren, the Titans just could never quite get over the hump.
21 6:20pm Dble SF Winner Gm 13 (Dover Bay) 68  Winner Gm 14 (St. Paul’s) 58
Review: A mini run at the end of the first quarter helped propel Dover Bay to an early 7 point lead, and the Dolphins not only exacted revenge on St. Paul’s for a Day 1 pool defeat but also reached the Invitational final. Trevor Davidson was yet again stellar, notching 20 and helping keep Crusaders star forward Tanner Draward scoreless in the opening half. Joey Nitychoruk did manage 19 for the losers, who, though tied once at 37 halfway through the third period, just could not get over the hump.
  8:00pm Dble   3-point shooting contest
Review: Alex Nagusse of Ross Shepherd was on fire throughout the contest to capture the title!!
22 8:30pm Dble SF Winner Gm 15 (Cowichan) 61 Winner Gm 16 (St. Georges) 70
Review: Defending BC AAA champions St. Georges reached the Invitational final with a hard fought nine point win over a determined Cowichan. Emerson Murray put on a superb first quarter show, hitting a trio of acrobatic trifectas, all of which helped stake the Saints to a 22-12 lead. More excellent shooting, this time from unheralded Milan Mitrovic, produced a commanding 40-22 margin at intermission. But the classy Thunderbirds refused to role over, fighting back to 57-53 with six minutes to play. But then, a final Murray three ball dagger stemmed the tide, with the difference at least six the rest of the way. Twin posts Steve McKinnon and Jordan Pendlebury shared 32 points for Cowichan, while swingman Dan Hobden posted three from beyond the arc en route to 14.

23 9:10am Dble   3rd Pool A (Hugh Boyd) 57 3rd Pool C (West Vancouver) 70
Review: West Vancouver, behind some slick passing and nine first half points from Carl Kvarnstrom, grabbed early control against a feisty Hugh Boyd team and then held on for a comfortable victory. Jon Steele continued his fine play with 20 points. For the Trojans, post Tyler Nett scored 15 while fellow pivot Davery Roberts posted a double-double with 14 points and 11 boards.
24 9:10am Sgle   3rd Pool B (Ross Shepherd) 95  3rd Pool D (St. Francis) 32
Review: 27 consecutive first quarter points, including three straight triples by Rob Haack, ensured total domination for Ross Shepherd, with the entire roster seeing plenty of court time. To its great credit, overmatched St. Francis never quit despite an ever growing scoreline.
25 11:00am Dble   Loser Gm 19 (SMUS) 85  Loser Game 20 (Harry Ainlay) 69
Review: Host SMUS saved its best for last, breaking out of an offensive malaise to register a season high 85 points. Jure Erlic, with 27, completed a fine tournament, hitting five of the team’s ten trifectas. Tycho Mommsen-Smith added a trio of threeballs himself on the way to 17 points, while fellow guard Jamie Yorath chipped in with 16, including a perfect 6-6 from the foul line. Indeed, the team went 17-20 from the charity stripe, a pleasing development for what has been a problem area. For the youthful Titan squad, Keith Gerdes led the way with 16 points.
26 12:50pm Dble   3rd Pool D (St. Francis) 67  3rd Pool A (Hugh Boyd) 64
Review: In one of the most compelling games of the tournament, Hugh Boyd and St. Francis both played their hearts out in this bottom of the table clash. A commanding 21 point halftime Trojan lead, paced by some sparkling play from pint sized PG Justin Espiritu, slowly melted away after intermission, as Evan Purdue’s outside shooting sparked life into the Calgary based Browns. In a dramatic finish, foul plagued and injury riddled Hugh Boyd were forced to play the final minute with only four players. And while forward Tyler Nett had a good look at what would have been a tying Trojan bucket with 18 seconds remaining, four free throws from Perdue edged St. Francis home.
27 12:50pm Sgle   Winner Gm 19 (LeBoldus) 69  Winner Gm 20 (Belmont) 53
Review: Any anticipated offensive fireworks failed to materialize, as Leboldus finished with a solid, methodical performance in defeating Belmont. Grade 10 Suns’ sensation Joe Deciman closed in style, hitting for a tournament high 32 points, including five from beyond the arc. For the Bulldogs, Sean Panton (16) and James Negraeef (15) capped a fine three days work in a losing cause.
28 2:40pm Dble   Loser Gm 21 (St. Paul’s) 65  Loser Gm 22 (Cowichan) 69
Review: A spirited bronze medal game was close the whole way, with Cowichan able to reverse a 31-30 halftime deficit to grab a narrow win. Post Jordan Pendlebury led the Thunderbirds with 21 points, and hit five consecutive free throws down the stretch as St. Paul’s pulled close. For the Crusaders, senior forward Tanner Draward enjoyed another excellent outing with 21, while junior pivot Joey Nitychoruk added to his growing reputation with 19.
29 2:40pm Sgle   3rd Pool C (West Vancouver) 41  3rd Pool B (Ross Shepherd) 79
Review: As perhaps anticipated, Ross Shepherd romped home in its final consolation game, with Adrian Osman’s 20 points leading the way. A 21-9 third quarter margin effectively ended the contest. For the Highlanders, PG Grady Krohman finished in some style with 15 points and 6 assists.
30 4:30pm Dble F Winner Gm 21 (Dover Bay) 74 Winner Gm 22 (St. Georges) 80 (OT)
Review: In an absolutely enthralling final, played before a large and appreciative crowd, St. Georges claimed the 2010 Invitational title with a heartpounding 80-74 OT victory over Dover Bay. The game featured eight lead changes and seven ties, and a spectacular finish to regulation when the Dolphins’ Ted Neilsen hit a clutch three pointer to knot the scores at 68. In the extra session, two long bombs from MVP Emerson Murray finally put Saints up 77-74, with free throws from Cornel Alexiu and Milan Mitrovic then securing a six point  win. St. Georges nailed thirteen trifectas overall, and needed every one of them to subdue its worthy opponent. For Dover Bay, Jason McKee led the way with 21, while Neilsen and Trevor Davidson added 13 apiece.
