<p class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0cm 0cm 10pt"><span style="font-size: x-small"><span style="font-family: Arial"><span>VICTORIA – </span><span lang="EN-US">Though there’s nothing unusual about the streets of Victoria being packed with fit young women, there will be even more of them starting on December 2nd, as high school volleyball players from all over BC will visit St. Michaels University School for the AA Provincial Championships. This is the first time in over 10 years that the province’s AA high school volleyball season will wrap up in the BC capital.</span></span></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0cm 0cm 10pt"><span lang="EN-US"><span style="font-size: x-small;font-family: Arial">“There are 90 AA schools and the top 16 are competing in provincials,” says Lindsay Brooke, SMUS Director of Athletics. “It’s arguably the best volleyball that you can see.”</span></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0cm 0cm 10pt"><span lang="EN-US"><span style="font-size: x-small;font-family: Arial">The latest season polls have St. Thomas Aquinas from North Vancouver, Brentwood College from Mill Bay, St. Patrick’s from Vancouver, Pacific Academy from Surrey, and Woodlands from Nanaimo rounding out the top five teams in the province. </span></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0cm 0cm 10pt"><span lang="EN-US"><span style="font-size: x-small;font-family: Arial">Teams from across BC will have to fight an uphill battle to nab the provincial title this year, as they face many strong schools, such as St. Patrick’s, who have won four times over the past 10 years. &#8220;The SMUS team has learned a lot and improved immensely over the last few months,” says their coach Allison Fenneman.<span>  </span>“The girls plan to utilize home court advantage and come out firing!&#8221;</span></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0cm 0cm 10pt"><span lang="EN-US"><span style="font-size: x-small;font-family: Arial">Everyone is welcome to watch the competition unfold and cheer on the young BC athletes throughout the tournament, which runs from December 3-5 with games at St. Michaels University School and St. Margaret’s School. </span></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0cm 0cm 10pt"><span lang="EN-US"><span style="font-size: x-small;font-family: Arial">The quarter-finals will run Friday night at 5:00 pm and 7:00 pm at SMUS and the semi-finals will take place Saturday morning at 10:50 am at SMUS. The provincial champions will be determined in the last game of the tournament, which will begin at 5:00 pm on Saturday at SMUS. </span></span></p>

<p class="Normal" style="margin-bottom: 10pt">VICTORIA – Young athletes from all over BC will descend upon Vancouver Island on December 2nd, as Victoria hosts the 2009 AA Girls Volleyball Provincial Championships. This is the first time in over 10 years that the province’s AA high school volleyball season will wrap up in the BC capital and the first time in several years that the final games have been held on the Island.</p>
<p class="Normal" style="margin-bottom: 10pt">The latest season polls have St. Thomas Aquinas from North Vancouver, Brentwood College from Mill Bay, St. Patrick’s from Vancouver, Pacific Academy from Surrey, and Woodlands from Nanaimo rounding out the top five teams in the province.</p>
<p class="Normal" style="margin-bottom: 10pt">“There are approximately 90 AA schools and the top 16 are competing in provincials,” says Lindsay Brooke, the Director of Athletics for tournament host St. Michaels University School. “It’s arguably the best high school volleyball that you can see.”</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<h2>The Road to the &#8220;AA&#8221; Provincials</h2>
<p><strong>Host:</strong> St. Michaels University School</p>
<p><strong>Venue:</strong> St. Michaels University School and St. Margaret&#8217;s School</p>
<p><strong>Date:</strong> December 3-5, 2009</p>
<p><strong>Transportation:</strong> Participating teams are responsible for their own transportation.</p>
<p><strong>Uniforms:</strong> All teams will be asked to observe the Canadian Volleyball Association uniform code. That  is, team members shall be dressed in a jersey and shorts of the same color. (Not some black shorts and some red, etc.)</p>
<p><strong>Accommodations:</strong> Accent Inn, Sandman Hotel and Harbour Towers. Links to all three Hotels can be found on the AA volleyball Website</p>
<p><strong>Practice times:</strong> Practice times on Wednesday December 2 from 3:30 pm and ending at 8:00 pm on a first booked, first served basis. Practice times will be at <strong>St. Michaels University School only </strong>and can be booked by contacting Lindsay Brooke.</p>
<p><strong>Team Picture and Roster:</strong> You will need one. <strong>Don&#8217;t wait until December, do it now.</strong> According to league policy the picture must be submitted to St. Michaels University School by Monday, November 23, 2009. Failure to do so is a $100 fine for late picture submission. A picture in jpeg format and accompanying roster can be sent to Wendy Shergold (wendy.shergold@smus.bc.ca).</p>
<p><strong>Substitution:</strong> Twelve subs unlimited per game, with any two players entering for each other multiple times. Libero rule in effect.</p>
